Review of Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) by Drew M — 16 Jul 2012
Robert Wise's Director's Edition is a huge improvement over the version out on VHS. And unlike George Lucas with the Special Editions of the Star Wars Original Trilogy, the cuts and enhanced special effects help ST: TMP, where with Star Wars they were unnecessary.
The effects in this movie are great for its time, with lots of beauty shots of the Enterprise flying through space, and exploring V'ger. Although the movie is a bit slow and boring. The Director's Edition improves on that a bit, by removing unnecessary scenes.
Also, Jerry Goldsmith's score for this movie is amazing and the main theme will forever be the defining theme for all things Star Trek.
