Review of Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) by Gabe S — 21 Dec 2009
Due to the East Coast Blizzard, I had plenty O time on my hands to rent cut-rate movies on pay-per-view.
One of these movies was Star Trek: The Motion Picture, circa 1979.
First of all, Shatners Toupe' was very passable for '79, but in several scenes you could really tell. That aside, this was a good movie. I was entertained, the graphics were acceptable, the acting was acceptable, and the toy model ships were at least detailed and moved appropriatly.
I was dissapointed in the outfits everyone was wearing. I couldn't tell an officer from a crewman scrubbing "warp plasma conduits". Also, the costumes were just plain ugly. Terribly ugly.
I also had a lot of trouble with the whole premise of this giant machine race that was so advanced, yet didn't search our primitive probes memory to even find out it's real name? (Voyager 6 as opposed to Vger. Dumb, dumb dumb).
So, as a Trekkie I give it 75%, but as an objective critic, I can't go any higher than 60%.
I welcome any feedback.
