Review of Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) by Lee C — 19 May 2009
I couldn't help myself but to see this after watching the new Star Trek that came out this year. I can't say it's any better of a film. Some of the writing, direction, and acting is below average.
What this film does make up for, which I wish the new Star Trek movie had, is depth. The plot, the mission, and everything involved with it was interesting. It was very boring and slow at the beginning, but the final third of the movie was awesome because of the plot.
It has been said many times that it mimicked 2001 A Space Odyssey. It does, a little too much and it does everything much worse. I would give this a worse rating, but like I said, this is mainly because this movie has depth, a depth that the new movie should have had.
