Review of Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) by Dave L — 07 Jul 2009
Legendary sci-fi director Robert Wise was undoubtedly inspired by 2001: A Space Odyssey in making this film. There is a sense of watching this movie that a viewer feels a sense of awe and wonder. That probably is what Star Trek, the first major motion picture, should make us feel.
It is unfortunate that the story is rather weak and feels more like a long form episode. The special effects were great for their time and its good to see the classic actors (characters) back in their roles but the story needed work.
