Review of Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) by Ro T — 05 Oct 2009
Grade A ancient sci-fi cheesiness. The epic long pans of the Starship Enterprise and the blue alien cloud are done incredible justice by the terrific musical scoring, and the all-to-familiar crew hop right back into their respective roles as if ten years hadn't passed since the original series was filmed.
The only real plot flaw is how the film takes ages to get to it's destination, and then the final merging of Will and the beautiful robot Ilia seems to happen out of nowhere very quickly. Shatner and the rest of the crew are, well, Shatner and the rest of the crew.
The special effects and model spaceships are just what you'd expect after Star Wars tore through the galaxy just two years prior.
