Review of Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) by Jason H — 03 Sep 2012
Slow, cerebral, baffling and occasionally pointless. Also, pretty great and very under-appreciated. At times, it's almost like an arthouse movie wandered into your Star Trek, and that's a good thing.
Nimoy's brilliant in it, Goldsmith's score is incredible, and the whole thing just has a grandeur that subsequent Star Trek films (and most science fiction films) lack. Wrath of Khan's still the best one, but this is the most challenging.
