Review of Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) by Baurushan J — 30 Apr 2013
Hello I'm Baurushan and this is my review of Star Trek: The Motion Picture. But before I actually start my review, let me talk about Star Trek the live and the original TV series. It was a science-fiction TV show that started airing in the 1960s and was not only for adults but also for kids too.
It gained a cult following and had it's first ever movie to be adapted by the late Robert Wise who directed The Haunting and The Day The Earth Stood Still. This movie then spawned a long-running franchise until it was decided that it should be finally rebooted by Cloverfield and Super 8 director J.
J. Abrams. The classic TV series also got rebooted a few times over the decades but the die hard fans of this largely spawned franchise known as Trekkies always remained throughout the universe. Well I am not obviously a big fan of this saga because I wasn't born then until I heard about this long-running franchise a couple years ago, it was time for me to join the Trekkies.
This is my review of Star Trek: The Motion Picture starring William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley and Stephen Collins. The story is about a destructive space entity is spotted approaching Earth so therefore Kirk resumes command of the Starship Enterprise in order to intercept, examine and hopefully stop it.
All the actors owned their roles but it's sad to say that most of them have aged and become too old to play the part or either passed away. Jerry Goldsmith's score was amazingly beautiful and I think it's quite a shame he passed the composing job onto James Horner for Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan.
What I think was quite bad is that it's pretty slow and ridiculously boring making us hard to keep track of the film and because of this, the movie gained a nickname called The "Slow"-Motion Picture.
If you've watched the whole franchise and you are a hardcore fan, then you may notice that it's always the even-numbered movies that are seemingly good whilst the odd-numbered movies are somewhat stupid.
Star Trek: The Motion Picture gets a 8.5/10.
