Review of Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) by Troy F — 16 May 2013
Star Trek: The Motion Picture is one of those films you wanted to like so much more, and can say you liked, but we're a bit disappointed by. It's visually remarkable and pleasing to the eye, the cast does well with some stand-out characters, the music score is menacing and heightening in a wonderful sense, and there's some great intense thrilling moments.
However, the film's story is complicated to indulge yourself in. You try to care, but almost find yourself rather bored. The structure itself is a bit confusing too, maybe because I dosed off, but I don't blame myself, because by the time the movie expects you to listen at certain parts, it's almost hard to cause you've been sitting there unmotivated by the lack of excitement and drive from the film.
Overall, it was a fairly alright film for a beginning to the adventures of Star Trek. Keep in mind, not all the movie was boring, but there are those moments, but truly some good ones too. It's a mixed bag, but I approve of the film fine enough for what it is.
