Review of Star Trek: Nemesis (2002) by Robert B — 07 May 2009
This movie was just bad on so many levels. After the disasterous and boring INSURRECTION this was suppossed to be the "apology" film akin to Superman IV for Superman III as I remember the press at the time, and the concept was very cool.
The Romulans. My Trek geekness lept at the thought or what were they plotting to destroy the Federation? So what went wrong? Other than Stewart and Spiner's continual domination of the Next Gen films making Shatner's ego look mild in comparison, the director's yet on another desert planet dune buggy action sequence.
Dune buggies? Yeah, that was lame. Hardy's Shinzon could've been bareable without the Nosferatu Remans hanging around him. Shinzon's ship set design looked like plaster board glued to a Van Nuys warehouse wall.
By the time the Remans boarded the Enterprise I kept thinking about the Trek parody film GALAXY QUEST. Then the final battle was inept and laboring by the time Data died I was actually glad as I new the credits would soon roll.
I thought the final shot of the decimated Enterprise sitting in dry dock was a very telling Omen for the franchise as a whole. Trek had run it's course.
