Review of Star Trek: Nemesis (2002) by Erno K — 20 Jun 2008
Star Trek has been forever doomed to be Star Wars lite. Half the budget, half the action, half the appeal. There is really nothing horribly wrong with this movie, but for some reason it feels completely redundant. Why was this made? There's nothing really worthwhile there. I was bored.
Has there ever been a Star Trek movie where they didn't annihilate The Enterprise? They really love dismantling the vessel. I would think The Federation wouldn't want to build the next one anymore, after seeing the average life of the cursed ship. But they keep churning them out and they keep getting destroyed. And we keep getting the same mediocre movies about it.
I'm really looking forward for the first modern, big-budget movie set in the Star Trek world, when J. J. Abrams shows us what he can do with the wealth of untapped lore. Maybe we are in the verge of actually seeing Star Trek transform into one of the big boys. We'll see. I really hope so.
