Review of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986) by Vince K — 08 Jul 2009
The only movie ever to be adapted from an '80s "SAVE THE WHALES" T-Shirt. Star Trek IV: The Search For Whales, also known as Whales In Space, came out at a time when tree-hugging anti-whaling propaganda was at it's height.
Fast forward 20 years later and whales are extinct, so HA HA HA you hippies. Your efforts were in vain! Just hope a space probe searching for whales doesn't come now, because we'd be fucked! The hunting isn't just a danger for whales, my friend Bryan weighs 450 lbs and he was spotted once by Russian fishermen and almost harpooned off the coast of Norway.
By the way, this is a great fucking movie. Loved the happy ending where the whales have saved Planet Earth, so Starfleet makes them both captains of starships. There was to be a spin-off series entitled Star Trek: The Adventures of Mr.
Whale but it was put a stop to by Peta, who thought a whale in space forced to command a starship was the highest form of animal cruelty.
