Review of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986) by Dathan R — 18 Apr 2014
Whoever's bright idea it was to have Star Trek interact with 1980s San Francisco ought to be simultaneously ashamed and proud of themselves. The movie's way overlong, doesn't really follow up on what Star Trek III set up for it, it's corny in all the ways Star Trek was not meant to be.
..but also corny in all the ways Star Trek was meant to be. It's a bad follow up to the last two movies and very stupid at times, but at points it can be really funny (Spock swimming with whales) and it has a well meaning message, not to mention they carried over the acting talent they had from the last two movies.
