Review of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986) by Jim C — 18 Sep 2012
Finally, a Star Trek movie that doesn't take itself so seriously. When a dangerous and mysterious space probe threatens Earth, the Star Trek crew uses a "time warp" technique (a trick they learned in the original series) to throw themselves back in time to the 1980s to rescue a pair of Humpback Whales. You see the probe is looking to communicate with the whales which had gone extinct in the 21st Century, according to Spock. The crew must travel back in time, find some whales and time warp back to save Earth from destruction.
There are some classic moments to look for in "The Voyage Home" including Chekov stopping people in the streets of Cold War-era San Francisco asking for the location of the "nuclear wessels," Spock's hilarious aquatic trespassing and a confused Scotty talking into the mouse of an early desktop computer. A classic Star Trek film and a hilarious parody of itself, its one of the most entertaining - certainly the most comical - of the earlier films.
