Review of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986) by Matt M — 29 Dec 2013
The Enterprise crew is forced back to the 1980s to satisfy the demands of a space prone threatening to destroy Earth if it is not allowed to continue its long standing communication with a specific mammal, the whale - an animal that has become extinct.
Nimoy himself directs what at first looks like a strange tale, but then becomes entertaining also because of its exotic nature. In fact, it's among the most entertaining motion pictures in the Star Trek franchise, perhaps because it seems to capture the original sentiments of the original series.
The screenplay also lends itself to humour in an amusing way, whilst still retaining an adventurous outer core that makes it engaging.
