Review of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986) by Ryan E — 13 Nov 2008
If Star Trek is, as many fans critique it, the second cousin to "real" space operas (a George Lucas concern comes to mind, I forget the name) then this is the best of that series, the series spawned from the first Roddenberry television show.
Why? Because its less concerned with saving the galaxy than with the gentle, often comic, interplay between the characters - that which made the series shine in the first place - and there's plenty of that here, more so than in any other.
Its the human touch that makes this one shine. Hear Chekov say "nu-kle-ver wessels"! Its worth the admission price alone. And then they save the galaxy.
