Review of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986) by Mjs M — 28 Dec 2008
I meant to see this in November as part of my monthly Star Trek movie marathon, and well? I got a bit side tracked and put it off until late December. Frankly I think this movie is a hoot. The producers took a lighter, more accessible approach to the film, but they did it right.
Some people don?t like it, and I can sort of understand. The film really can?t be taken seriously, it plays fast and loose with ?space time continuum? type stuff, and the story is pretty lightweight, but it makes up for all this with some very amusing comedy.
Scotty trying to use an 80?s computer, Kirk trying to curse, and Chekov asking around about the ?nuclear wessals? are all really amusing. The movie is really dated now, but that oddly sort of adds to its charm, I personally think it?s a laugh riot that the crew of the Enterprise is stuck saving the whales, what a quaint environmental concern.
