Probably one of the most random movie premises I've seen. An Alien probe is sending out some kind of whale call from outer space to communicate with humpback whales, a side effect to this is that the atmosphere and oceans are being destroyed and all technological equipment around earth fails. The crew of the enterprise decide to go back in time to the 1980's in an attempted to bring back the extinct whales on their Klingon spaceship and take them back to the 23rd century in hopes that they would communicate to the alien probe and tell them to stop f$#king up the planet.

Even though the plot sounds so absurd I have never been so engaged in an original Star Trek film. Aside from the latest revamp this is the most entertaining Star Trek movie. I started to like characters I disliked in previous films most notably Chekhov. It also displayed perfectly the dynamics in the relationships among the crew especially between McCoy, Kirk and Spock. A very light hearted movie compared to the previous two films with many comedic moments. The movie felt like an extended episode it was easy to follow easy to connect with the characters and overall very enjoyable.
