This is in my opinion the best of the first five Star Trek movies. What made this film great was the fun humor which works really well, and it also has a very Trek feeling to it. There is no 'heavy' feeling in this film, like the director (Nimoy) says in the commentary, and this is why the film is so innocent and fun.

No violence and no dark feelings there, really. In my opinion its a classic movie. If there was something to criticize I would say that it doesn't really have very much in the special effects, mainly I am writing about the silly looking "time-travel" scene.

Why on earth is the time-travel so easy for them? If it were as easy as it looks like in the movie, Earth's history would be messed up by wanna-be-time-travelers.. In any case, the lighthearted theme and nature preservation story is great, the acting is well done (Shatner, Nimoy, Catherine Hicks).

I remember having seen this film in the movies when it was released, I even had a poster of the film I bought from the theatre as a kid. The film has jokes but the jokes are nice, and not stupid. Spock as the "LDS" hippie and Scotty talking to the computer mouse are just hilarious, and the hospital scene is really great! Favorite science fiction movie of mine.

I got this on DVD and it has the film, the commentaries, and other bonuses on the second DVD -disc. Best Star Trek.
