Review of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986) by Leigh G — 29 Jan 2011
The first Mad magazine movie sendup I ever read was "Star Trek IV - The Voyage Bombs," featuring McGoy, Sumu, Checkout etc. But I hadn't seen the movie yet - when the two came together it was gold.
- Schlock you are not accused. You do not have to stand with the others.
+ I want to be with my friends.
- Very well, you are charged with ...
+ I said I wanted to be with my friends, they're sitting over there...
But back to the movie. I think the absurdity of the plot (although ecologically relevant) is nicely balanced against the humour. These guys are tight, and the way they back each other up in their whacky schemes is a joy to watch! Treat it as a comedy and you can't go wrong. Great value, my favourite Star Trek fillem.
And if you don't like it, a double dumbass on you!
[After writing this, I'm changing my rating from 4.5 to 5!].
