Review of Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) by Ian A — 03 Jul 2016
As one of the earliest fans of the original Star Trek TV series, I can attest with authority that Star Trek Into Darkness is one the best films in the series. It warms my heart with such feelings of nostalgia to watch these two newest movies as they both have reached into the soul of the first series to recapture the true essence of what made the show so great! Self-sacrifice.
Humor. Friendship. Love. Serving causes greater than one's own self-centered way of living. And, of course, plenty of Captain Kirk fist swinging action scenes. JJ Abrams has done what Steven Spielberg has accomplished many times over; he's caught lightning in a bottle.
This director/producer has done, in a few short years, more for modern cinema and television than most others in similar positions do in a lifetime. Felicity. Alias. Lost. Fringe. Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
As the original Captain Kirk said to Mr. Stiles, 'leave your bigotry in your quarters... There's no room for it on the bridge' of the Starship Enterprise. So instead of seeking to tear down such works of love and each other, we should become united as 'one big happy fleet'.
After all, our kind has proven to the narrow-minded of this world that we were right all along: Sci-Fi and Fantasy reign supreme in the world's collective Hollywood conscience. Thank you George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, JJ Abrams, Gene Roddenberry, John Williams, Michael Giacchino, Alexander Courage, Jerry Goldsmith, Ben Burt, James Horner, and so many other magic makers for the fun.
Can't wait for all the adventures awaiting us!
