Review of Star Trek: Insurrection (1998) by Christopher A — 13 May 2013
You'd think that this whole "let's rebel against Starfleet" would equal automatic awesome but, really, it doesn't do much to live up to First Contact. We abandon awesome action movie time to give Picard a mission fling with a 300 year old woman.
The ideas introduced, the whole Prime Directive thing and why exactly the So'na are so invested in getting the Ba'ku off the planet, aside from the whole desperate need for better plastic surgery, is a good thought.
It just didn't pan out as well. That being said, there are great moments with everyone as per usual. Picard, Worf, and Data doing Gilbert and Sullivan; Klingon puberty; Troi and Riker being themselves.
Those bits made the weird stuff worth it.
