Review of Star Trek: Insurrection (1998) by Philip D — 20 Dec 2007
I've only seen Insurection twice, so this will be a relatively less descriptive review.
Right. Insurrection. Not quite the best title to use. Ambivelance or Dilemma would have been more descriptive, although even less catchy. One ship does not really constitute insurrection. There were some good moments and some bad moments. After the development of Data in the last two films, he seemed to regress a little in this one, concentrating more on comedy and malfunctions. Riker had some great moments with Troi. The rekindling of their old relationship was, many might argue, long overdue and at last Riker got rid of that rubbish beard! In my opinion, although the cast and all concerned give their best, at just two years after First Contact, Insurrection seemed very rushed to me. The villains were good, but a lot of the background didn't really make sense. Pickard sort of get's a love scene, which is almost on a soulmate level, and that was good, and the time slowing moments, and the music with it reminded me of a few similar moments in my own life. I identified with that scene very well.
