Review of Star Trek: Insurrection (1998) by Sam B — 14 Feb 2009
This is a poor filml. The Ba'ku live on a planet that gives them a special energy keeping them in a youthful state. The Federation want this to help themselves after the effects of the Dominion War, but the Enterprise crew won't have it, as they believe its a violation of the Prime Directive, and therefore it goes against what the Federation stands for.
The son'a also used to live on the planet, but they wanted to live a life of technology, so the Ba'ku cast them out. Basically this is a morality tale, something Star Trek is all about, but the dialogue and storyline don't back up the sentiment, and therefore it falls short of the mark.
And if this film looks familiar, then it's probably because you've seen the 7th season TNG episode 'Homeward', its very similar.
