Review of Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984) by David D — 07 Dec 2009
The follow up to the now-classic Wrath of Khan is simply just ok. It suffers from rather weak special effects and a rather plodding script. But for some reason this flick is still fun. It is certainly better than the first Star Trek film as well as The Final Frontier. Yet this film never reaches the heights of Khan, Voyage Home, or Undiscovered Country.
Perhaps it is the missing dynamic between Spock and Kirk, who knows. But this film just barely gets the job done. With a interesting (and at times hilarious) turn from Christopher Lloyd as the villain, The Search for Spock is just barely entertaining--but probably only for fans of the series. Which I am--sort of. I've always considered myself more of a Star Wars guy.
