Review of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) by Alex S — 06 Oct 2010
Pretty durn good for a sequel to a 15-year-old TV episode. Montalban does a great job with the juiciest of Trek villains to date and the low-octane "action" sequences fit the tone of the film very well. It's the Trek attempt to acknowledge the existence of "Star Wars" without (inappropriately) aping its style, unlike the "Star Trek" reboot, which essentially turns Trek into Wars.
Paradoxically, however, that may limit my appreciation of "Khan" due to the fact that I'm a Wars man at heart. This film's great strength is in the interaction of its characters, particularly at the end, but it's difficult for me personally to muster much interest in them - especially when they let Kirk and Spock do practically everything.
