Review of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) by Juan C — 11 Jan 2011
Bring on the Kiboyashi Mayu folklore. This particular Star Trek film is extremely character based the even features the Shatner quoting Shakespeare. Opportunities for set pieces are avoided such as the killing of the scientists, and this adds to the character dynamics.
The film becomes a true battle of wits between Shatner and Khan. A prior knowledge and love of Star Trek seems to be a prerequisite to fully appreciate. Kirk is still in his prime even if everyone else has faded.
I also love the way Genesis was intertwined in the story.
