Review of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) by Jeff H — 23 Jul 2011
"Khan!!!!" Classic stuff. Shatner is the only Captain, Picard is such a poop. Kelley is struggling, and it hurts to watch. We can't drag our childhood kicking and screaming with us forever. Eventually the organs give out. Nimoy is stiff and he manages to make the aging part of the story. There's really no way to be sure if he really is that stiff or its acting. Kelley is definitely not acting when he shakes and stresses his lines. Doohan is great and portrays the aging single-minded Scot perfectly. Montalban's lines are written in my brain: "I spit at thee, with my dying breath". Shakespeare only makes sense in science fiction :).
Really, more than Star Wars, Star Trek movies and some of the shows captured a humanity that is still unusual in sci-fi. Campbell would have been proud.
