Review of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) by Davey M — 22 Sep 2013
It's pretty refreshing to see a sci-fi adventure movie with such deliciously artificial, hand-drawn practical effects, some down time between the space battles, and actual middle-aged actors playing actual middle-aged characters dealing with actual middle-aged things, like growing up, confronting the mistakes and carelessness of the past, and confronting one's own (and others') mortality.
"The Wrath of Khan" seems to be the go-to title for the best of the franchise, and the combination of B-movie serial (this feels more like "Flash Gordon" than "Star Wars" ever did) and pop Heideggerian sci-fi existentialism certainly makes it my favorite "Star Trek" I've seen.
