Review of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) by George B — 01 Mar 2015
February 27, 2015 became a date that marked every science fiction fan and movie lovers in general as it was the day legendary actor Leonard Nimoy passed away. With this devastating news, I watched the only Star Trek film I own and watch it as a reminder of how a great actor he was.
The story follows the Enterprise crew on the quest of stopping their enemy Khan Noonien Singh from obtaining a powerful terraforming device called" Genesis".
If you had read my reviews of both J.J.Abrams films, you know that I have only seen a handful of episodes of the original Star Trek series and this film so I won't pretend I am a Trekkie but I can still remember every aspect of said episodes and the same goes to "Wrath of Khan". "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" is film that has more than a handful of greatly executed elements: Solid acting with the most memorable being Ricardo Montalban as the iconic and fun villain Khan, functional special effects, the beloved and iconic Enterprise crew counts with character development that is handle perfectly, spot on pacing, serviceable action sequences, the sophisticated themes that the franchise is known for are in here, a memorable score by James Horner, memorable sequences, an over the top vibe that fits perfectly with the movie´s ideas, and it has an exciting story to tell, sure it may seem sally for the new millennium's standards but is without a doubt a memorable story. As I said in the introduction of this review, the reason I rewatch this after some many years was due to Leonard Nimoy and I got to say that this film may present Nimoy at its peak as the beloved Vulcan, I mean just look at how iconic and emotional the finale is thanks to his incredible performance, "He's really not dead... as long as we remember him.".
"Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" is the only Star Trek film I´ve seen and I glad to say that it is one of the most memorable science fiction films I have ever seen thanks to its characters and plot that continue to work even by today's demanding standards.
