Review of Star Trek: Generations (1994) by Russell S — 17 Jan 2009
I didn't think this was too bad when I first saw it, but I hadn't developed an affection for TOS characters. This takes their work and does a big pile of shit on it, pointlessly killing Kirk without so much as a tear shed for him.
The two generations are essentially incompatible. One is fun and bright, with sets that still look.
Futuristic, a world with huge scope, characters of massive diversity; the other is dull and full of one dimensional characters... it's just so clinical. It's good in its own right, but just don't combine the two and sully the other's good name!
There's just so many unnecessary things in this film, as well as Kirk's death, there's Picard's kids dying, the Enterprise dying.. and worst of all, now they're in a film with more permissive censorship possible, Deanna Troi keeps her clothes on.
