Review of Star Trek: Generations (1994) by Sam B — 14 Feb 2009

Oh dear how many flaws are there in this movie? Why exactly does Picard go back to when he was getting his ass kicked by Soran, rather than go back to when he was speaking to Soran in Ten Forward earlier in the film.

This way he wouldn't have needed to go and get Kirk. Sure this wouldn't have had Picard and Kirk together but perhaps we didnt need this publicity stunt... Ok maybe Picard and Kirk together was quite cool, but they really could have done it so much better.

Also, it really didn't feel like Kirk, more like William Shatner. And since when did Kirk take orders from someone else? I think the real Kirk would have told Picard to go back to Ten Forward and kill Soran there, cos that's how he thinks, but the Kirk in this film just seemed to go along with all the madness.

Another bad thing was Kirk's death, which was so unspectacular compared to say, Spocks death for example, it was done so poorly, with what seems like a lack of sincerety. Oh and Data's emotion chip was laughable rather than emotional.

What was good about this film? Maybe the destruction of the Enterprise D, that was an emotional scene, especially for a die hard TNG fan such as myself, which reminds me, the final episode of TNG, All Good Things.

.., was superior to this film in every way, interesting considering this was written by the same people (Ronald D. Moore and Brannon Braga), and was apparently written at the same time.
