The torch is passed on the big screen to the Next Generation, although Kirk's presence here seems only obligatory. My first real exposure to the Next Generation and I found the characters to be a little more three dimensional than the old guard.
The Enterprise cannot be salvaged but Data's cat Spot is rescued in a heartwarming finish.
