Review of Star Trek Beyond (2016) by Niels D — 31 Aug 2016
Captain James T. Kirk has lost his way and his motivation. What's he still doing it for? What's the point of Starfleet? It's a strong start to this space adventure that takes Kirk and the rest of the Enterprise crew to a distant, unknown planet where Krall, leader of a fleet of starships that attacks like a swarm of bees, is hatching on some evil plan. The scenery is lush and the action sequences (particularly when the Krall ships attack) are a treat.
Lin's energetic direction, the clever script (Krall's backstory versus Kirk's mental state, the references to the first movie of the reboot-trilogy) and the excellent cast, make this a worthy addition to the Star Trek universe and an extremely enjoyable summer blockbuster.
