Review of Star Trek Beyond (2016) by Sally O — 06 Sep 2016
In 2009, JJ Abrams brought Star Trek back from the dead and introduced it to modern audiences by making it more action orientated while maintaining some of what made the series loved by its rabid fan base, and even though I've liked his previous 2 films, Star Trek: Beyond is in my opinion far and away the best installment in the franchise, it successfully blends action with great character work and smart writing, you can tell the people behind this film are very passionate about what they're doing, not only is Simon Pegg once again playing Montgomery Scotty (wink) but he also shares writing duties with Doug Jung, you can tell he has such a loving and understanding of this universe, the combination of his love for the series and Lin's steady hand behind the camera really makes this film click on so many cylinders, it's definitely not Fast & Furious in space, it's a smart, heartfelt blockbuster and those are the best type of blockbusters.
