Review of Star Trek Beyond (2016) by Kevin M. W — 30 Sep 2016

Remember the old television series? The original? Of course you do, cause somehow, someway, somebody has seen to it that you DO remember, and this filmic excursion takes it's time not with story so much, but with your memories of what came before.

Oh yeah, there's action, adventure, gigantic explosions, bodies flying about every which way, punches thrown, acceleration through endless tracts of space and of course space gun battles, and people with faces made-up to look alien (but nothing else).

A space western, pure and simple, but what's wrong with that? To my thinking this is the first of this series reboot that embraces that aesthetic wholeheartedly, and so I liked it more. It looks as if they're leaving the old series behind at last and moving to the next step.

That's what the title refers to, I think, that they want to go beyond what Roddenberry began. Well good. I believe he would've wanted it that way. Big fun.
