Review of Star Trek Beyond (2016) by Derrick M — 14 Nov 2016

This was a major disappointment for me. I'm a moderate Trekkie. I've seen all the original series episodes and all TNG. I still watch TNG monthly. I loved the first reboot. Thought the second was pretty good, but this was written so poorly that I am about to give up on the franchise.

The graphics and effects were great. The acting was good. It's just that crappy writing! The Federation's best ship is taken out easily by the alien drones, but eventually finds a secret weapon.... The Beastie Boys! Really! Sabotage again for the second time in 3 movies? Even the same "classical music" joke straight from Futurama (who also used Beastie Boys and Sabotage).

Of course, we have to the have the strength of diversity theme in this movie. That is, except the villain is a black. You cannot have black villains. It's racist. Any black guys science fiction need to be the good guys, and usually Will Smith.

Any way. In my opinion, it's just an uninspiring script that will diminish the franchise if they continue with these writers. Don't waste your time here.
