Review of Star Trek Beyond (2016) by Robby K — 26 Dec 2016

Fans of the franchise won't be disappointed, but a less familiar viewer may find it less rewarding. The acting is good, the directing is fine, and the action isn't bad by any means. The problem is that if you take this film away from the franchise, and just judge it solely by itself, all you're left with is a run of the mill action movie with very good makeup and graphics.

While that's not the worst thing in the world, if you now add in the fact that it is a well loved and iconic franchise, you'll realize that it doesn't really add anything to the lore or overall story of the series.
