Review of Star Trek Beyond (2016) by Chris S — 23 Feb 2017
This movie is a straight-forward action-adventure without the cringe-worthy gimmicks of its predecessors. The pacing is like clockwork, so it feels a little predictable. The relationships are understated, so it doesn't become a melodrama, and that is good for Star Trek.
It is missing any really thoughtful sci-fi ideas and that makes it seem like the Star Trek: Insurrection of this generation. But the movie is enjoyable and unlike Into Darkness, is re-watchable. It is good to see the crew break away from Star Fleet and explore space.
