I really wanted to like this movie. I am a big Star Trek fan. Not the kind that knows minutia like Gene Roddenberry's favorite ice cream flavor, but the kind the loves a space, a good story line, and some intelligent character development. Star Trek has always had that - until this film.

Overall, it felt very episodic. There is really nothing here except a lot of explosions and meaningless fighting. In fact, it hard almost cartoonish at one point. Like when Kirk was driving the motorcycle and was able to block everyone's bullets (or whatever it is). Boring.

When I look back at the previous film, they has a major character (Khan) who had a complex background and personality. Even when he won you felt for him. He was exciting, extremely intelligent, suspenseful, and help you on your toes. When there was an explosion, it was for a real reason that meant something to the viewer. As opposed to this film where one rock song all of the sudden blew up a giant army of space ships. I mean, are you serious?

I can watch this film a hundred times and still not understand why they did certain things. Except maybe because they're building out the franchise as episodes for people to come waste there money, go home, and come back in another few months to see more of the same. Not me.
