Not your usual space adventure. Kirk, Spock, the crew have new thoughts about life and their purpose after the initial glow of "going where no man has gone before" wears off. This was a twist on the old TV show where the good guys always won.
There were ties to the previous movies, which give it the continuity that Trekkies love. Don't know if I like the ending, it was almost a send off, like this was the last Star Trek with this cast.
