Review of Star Trek Beyond (2016) by Leah H — 26 Aug 2016
This installment of the Star trek reimagine (which I LOVE, btw) is just okay when compared to the others. It's obvious that it was directed by the Fast & Furious director (hence the totally ridiculous motorcycle scene), and the script had little depth.
Some elements of this movie were phenomenal (e.g.,Jayla), but the overall impact feels incomplete (not to mention the improbable design and plot holes of the main weapon). That being said, it is definitely an entertaining movie, and our beloved characters are held true to themselves.
In fact, It's not a bad movie, it just feels like it was made by people who don't really get what makes Star Trek so great. It's not the action, it's the moral dilemmas and social commentary that give Star Trek its soul.
That and the scientific plausibility of the technology. Let's hope the next movie's producers and directors understand that.
