Review of Star Trek Beyond (2016) by M W — 17 Oct 2016
This didn't work at all for me, nothing like the original TV series except for pale imitations of the original characters played by the original actors. The plot was not remotely the same, no moral dilemmas, no clever solutions created by Spock and Kirk and Bones, too much action, chasing around, and too much technical mumbo jumbo.
By halfway through the movie I lost track of where all the characters were located and didn't care. I think this would work a lot better if they just scratched the original characters and started all over again.
These actors' talents are being blocked by having them have to imitate the old characters. Reminded me of watching a tribute band--and a bad one.
