Review of Star Trek Beyond (2016) by Bob L — 13 Jul 2017

If I wan't a Star Trek fan I may have given this two stars. I really really loved the first installment, really liked the second. This one however left me wishing I hadn't watched it. For the first time that I remember I got bored with the movie about halfway through, and continued watching a few days later.

Besides a lackluster story/flow to the movie, here is my biggest gripes (said out loud while watching): 1. The Enterprise gets totally ripped apart, and somehow manages to crash on a planet in tact (for the most part).

2. Somehow Kirk and others manage to get on board, fight the aliens (no spoilers) - turn on thrusters, jump on top, slide down the top side as the saucer section is tipping over, and run out of the way so it doesn't land on them.

Watch the scene again - this was ridiculous. 3. Kirk on the motorbike with mirror "holograms" - nobody could figure out that the one bike that was dumping sticky gooey shielded stuff from the back of it was the only "real" bike? Come on.

4. SO the Federation built this huge super advanced space station, but it was equipped with zero transporters. I say this because when the alien with the weapon goes into the life support system, they could have a) beamed him direct to the brig, or b) beamed a team of people to the life support area to kill him, or c) beamed him and the weapon straight into space, and zap with phasers.

A space Station of this size would surely be using site to site transport, with experts manning them. If I watched again I could probably list more, but that is never going to happen. Story line was good but needed more rich development and less stupid action.

Another "could have been good" movie.
