A fun blockbuster movie, Star Trek has a lot going on for it. The way that the movie was set up, without spoiling anything, essentially made it a simultaneous sequel/prequel while giving a nod to the forty plus years of Star Trek continuity, but essentially creating their own rules.
A fun nostalgia movie, with great special effects and dialogue. But, essentially, given the way the movie unfolds, this won't be one of those great science fiction flicks people talk about for years, but it makes for a good evening at the movies.
