Review of Star Trek (2009) by Ryan W — 29 Jul 2016
Star Trek is directed by J.J. Abrams, and it stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Eric Bana, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, John Cho, and Anton Yelchin in a science fiction film about the introduction of James Kirk, Spock, and their crew of when they go to the Enterprise as they go up against a rebel that's a Romulan.
I figured that with Star Trek Beyond in theaters and a way for me to remember where we are at, I should watch the rebooted series again to get a grasp of it. So for J.J. Abrams's first Star Trek, it's fantastic.
The cast members they they have for this, is really spot on and are great in this. The special effects are a spectacle to watch, and the story is pretty tight which also bring some risky moves in it which I'm honestly fine with it.
The interactions that Kirk and Spock have is interesting, and the characters are three dimensional. I know that people have problems with the lens flare, and while it is noticeable at times, it wasn't at the point that it was distracting.
The action scenes are fun to watch, and the fan service is pretty nice while actually valuable to the plot. The writing by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman is really smart and has some great twists in there.
The villain is decent, but I can see why people might think he's a weak villain, even though Eric Bana is intimidating in this. Star Trek is the first film of the series that I've seen, and thanks to it, it really made me a fan of the films.
