Review of Standard Operating Procedure (2013) by Maija K — 22 Mar 2009
A look at the story behind the awful photographs from Abu Ghraib, as told by the soldiers themselves. A lot of time has passed between taking the pictures and the interviews, so you end up wondering how much has time done to the solders' memories.
After going through such stress as the prison itself, only to end up under the scrutiny and contempt of the whole world and, worst of all, their own countrymen, it wouldn't surprise me if you actually started to believe the politically correct version of what you did.
In the end, it's naturally obvious that these soldiers were kids who were being used by the higher ranking officials, which is why the documentary would have been more interesting had they been able to interview anyone a little higher in the chain. As such, it only tells what we already knew (or were able to gather from the evidence) in a little more detail.
