Review of Stand Up Guys (2012) by Callum M — 27 Jun 2013

Beginning as an attempt at laugh out loud comedy, the film begins poorly, but as Pacino, Walken and Arkin settle into their groove, the piece evolves away from the lowest common denominator approach of Viagra jokes towards a considered, occasionally fascinating and often frivolous consideration of friendship, loyalty and mortality.

The film is worthwhile for reminding me of how intensely beautiful Christopher Walken's gaze can be and also for it's investigation of every definition of the phrase "going out with a bang!".
