Review of Stand by Me (1986) by Shane H — 08 Apr 2012
Probably one of the greatest movies to come out of the eighties. River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, Richard Dreyfuss and a solid cast. The movie is based on a Steven King short story in the book Four Seasons called The Body.
Dreyfuss plays a writer narrating the story of himself as a boy with his 3 good friends played by Phoenix, Feldman and O'Connell. They boys find out that a kid in there class that's come up missing was struck and killed by a train and the body is off in the woods in a neighboring county.
They set out on a journey to see the body and possibly become famous for finding it. The trek takes them cross country where they get into adventure after adventure. It's a true coming of age story where they find themselves in numerous dangerous situations.
The Older brother of Phoenix is in a gang called The Cobras headed by Kiefer Sutherland and they are also out to find the boy and become famous. Rob Reiner delivers a powerful movie with a really solid message.
