Review of Stand by Me (1986) by Hari A — 21 Aug 2012
Known as one of the best coming of age stories, I was not surprised to find out how good this flick is. The story is simple. When Vern over hears the story of a dead kid near a section of the railroad tracks, he tells his friends.
They then set out to find the body, and learn about themselves on the journey. For me, the best part are the kids. They're crass, mis-behaved, and irresponsible, but that's what makes them great.
They're the kids you always meet in school who curse like crazy ,but are cool for doing so. Just seeing them interact with each other is very realistic. As for the rest of the movie, it's not as important.
Vern's brother, the one talking about the body, also sets out with his friends to find it. They're are a few memorable side characters, but what makes it great are the kids. Check it out.
