Review of Stand by Me (1986) by Ambrus V — 16 Mar 2013
It's not just the great turns that Rob Reiner gets out of the four young stars, or the rites-of-passage story, that make this an unforgettable film. It's the glorious setting that frames the adventures of the four friends.
Everyone can relate to that time in their life when they were discovering what the world was about, and every sequence here seems so eloquently realised against the idealistic surroundings of 1950's America.
You feel like you knew friends like these and it reminds you of when you thought the world was quite simple. A truly great film.
